Find the name you both love

Nanabee Names lets you swipe through baby names, learn what they mean, and match with your partner.

Coming soon to Google Play, then the App Store.

Swipe through baby names

One name at a time, on a big card: swipe right to like it, left to skip it, and tap the card for everything about the name. Undo brings back the last one. The filters narrow the deck down to the names you are looking for:

  • Gender: girls, boys or names for both.
  • Origin: Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Slavic, Germanic, Celtic and more.
  • Length: short, medium or long names.
  • First letter and how common a name is, from popular to rare.
  • Country: the names given in one country, or in all of them.

Meanings and origins

For more than 1,300 of the most loved names, the card shows what the name means and where it comes from, in your language. The meanings were checked one by one; where nothing reliable is known, the app shows no meaning rather than a guess. With Pro you can try a name with your surname: the app shows the initials and points out a rhyme, an alliteration or a name and surname that run together.

Popularity by country

About 69,000 names with their official statistics: how many babies got the name, its best rank, and a chart year by year. The data comes from each country's statistics office:

  • United States: Social Security Administration.
  • England and Wales: Office for National Statistics, from 1996.
  • Spain: Instituto Nacional de EstadĂstica.
  • Germany: the cities of Berlin, Munich and Bonn.
  • Serbia: RepubliÄŤki zavod za statistiku.

Choose together with your partner

Link your two phones with a short code or a link, without signing up. You both swipe on your own phone, at your own pace, and the moment you both like the same name, it's a match: a little celebration on both phones and a shared list of the names you both love. Your first invite and your first shared names are free.

Only the names you like are sent, so your phones can compare them. Skipped names and your notes never leave your phone.

Your shortlist

Liked names go to Favourites. Put them in order with the arrows, add a note on why you like a name or who it is after, and keep up to 20 for free, or as many as you like with Pro.

Free and Pro

Swiping, filters, meanings, matching with your first shared names and 20 favourites are free, without ads and without an account. Names Pro is a one-time purchase, no subscription: every shared name with your partner, the popularity charts, the surname check and unlimited favourites. When one of you buys Pro, you both see every shared name.
